Employee in Mental Health Bias gets €57,900

A landmark equality decision has broken new ground and will serve as a deterrent to discrimination against people with mental health problems, according to the Equality Authority. It is the first time that the Labour Court has upheld a claim of discrimination on the ground of disability when the disability was a mental illness.

Teachers' Union of Ireland Wins Age Discrimination Case in Monaghan

There was a successful outcome to a claim of discrimination put before the Equality Tribunal by the Teachers' Union of Ireland, on behalf of Ms. Mary Carroll a teacher in Beech Hill College Co. Monaghan. The Equality Officer found that Co. Monaghan VEC discriminated against Ms. Carroll on grounds of age.

Ireland - Disability Discrimination Gives Rise to More Than “Nominal Cost” - €13,000

A case which came before the Labour Court recently concerned a claim of dismissal, based wholly or mainly on the ground of Disability. The complainant was employed as a childcare assistant in a Crèche, and had been in that position for over one and a half years when she was dismissed. Throughout her employment she had suffered from anorexia.
