Ageing and Work

http://www.ikatyo.fi/IkaJaTyo/English/default.htm

These pages on 'Ageing and work' describe the viewpoints of both individuals, enterprises, and the entire society. There is an abundance of 'good practices' which encourage us to take action for the improvement of the work environment and the workers' health.

Ageing Workers

http://oem.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/58/8/546

Chronological ageing starts at birth and ends at death. Therefore, anyone in the work force (15-64 years of age) can be considered an ageing worker. However, the definition of an ageing worker is generally based on the period when major changes occur in relevant work related functions during the course of work life.

Ageing Workers and Age Mix at the Workplace

http://www.ttl.fi/Internet/English/Information/Electronic+journals/Tyoterveiset+journal/1999-03+Special+Issue/06.htm

Younger workers have a number of functional advantages over their older workmates. They have better training, they are faster, and they are physically stronger. Older workers, however, have their own assets and coping abilities: above all, the wisdom and professional competence acquired through years of experience.

Creating Better Working Conditions for Older Workers

http://www.arbetslivsinstitutet.se/newsupdates/20040510.asp

Working conditions need to be adapted to encourage older people to remain in the workforce. Sweden's National Institute for Working Life and the Swedish Work Environment Authority have produced joint guidelines aimed at improving the working conditions of older workers.
