GeneralIn the Netherlands, Article 1 of the Constitution prohibits discrimination. The Dutch equal treatment laws elaborate on this norm. These laws are complex and prohibit unequal treatment in specific fields and on a limited number of grounds. The Dutch Equal Treatment Commission is an independent organization that was established in 1994 to promote and monitor compliance with these laws. The Commission also gives advice and information about the norm. Anybody in the Netherlands can seek advice or an opinion from the Commission about a specific situation concerning unequal treatment, free of charge. This Website contains information about the Equal Treatment Commission and about equal treatment legislation. |
